The competition watchdog has approved the proposed merger between Nine and Fairfax.

ACCC Chairman Rod Sims told Mornings with Gareth Parker, the move will probably reduce competition in Australian news content, but not enough to break the law.

Fairfax Media is a majority owner of Radio 6PR.
