“A sensible approach” to lock down WA’s border

AMA WA Emergency Medicine spokesperson Dr David Mountain joined Weekend Breakfast to take listeners calls. He told Michael Genovese and Carmen Braidwood that despite some places such as gyms using thermometer guns to determine if people can enter, they are extremely inaccurate in determining if someone is infected with coronavirus.

Dr David Mountain says some people have no symptoms at all.

“If only it was that easy to wave a thermometer at people and they work. That’s certainly not the way we do it.”

He also believes West Australians should be banned from travelling interstate to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

“I would be advising the Government to stop all interstate travel. If I was the State Government [it would have to be an emergency] to allow interstate travel.”

“Particularly to NSW and QLD.”

When are you immune to COVID-19 and are swimming pools safe? How long are surgical masks effective for, is cash safe to handle? What temperature to wash your sheets to kill the virus? These are just a few of the other topics Dr Mountain covered in this informative segment on Weekend Breakfast.

One thing is clear – the main message is still to wash your hand with soap for at least 20 seconds.
