The TGA has approved Pfizer to now submit an application to register their Covid vaccine for kids 6 months to 5 years old.

Meanwhile the free flu jab program was announced to be extended for a month, as roughly only 30% of West Aussies have been vaccinated against influenza.

Infectious disease and vaccine expert from Sydney University, Professor Robert Booy told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that young children will have a massive benefit being vaccinated for both Covid and influenza.

“Influenza is more of a risk for children under 5. We have a vaccine that is safe, effective and free. It is definitely worth having for children with medical issues,” Professor Booy said.

“Because of the fact that we shut our boarders and had social distancing, all of these reasons meant that the flu went away. We now have a whole bunch of children under 3 or 4 who have never had flu, natural immunity or vaccine induced immunity and therefore can actually get quiet sick and end up in hospital.”
