Perth’s Shalom House dispute with City of Swan heats up
Peter Lyndon-James, CEO of Shalom House is in an on-going dispute with the City of Swan in regards to their growing facility and operations that help people with mental health issues.
Shalom House is claiming that the City of Swan is tying them up in red tape during development applications, in a bid to force them out of the area.
“Our relationship has always been significantly difficult and it’s getting even worse,” Mr Lyndon-James told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live.
“I’ve said from day dot that I will never ever elevate policies above human life and when our court case started about 8 years back, as Shalom continued to grow – at the end what happened was the new Government came in – literally running Shalom House out of the Swan Valley.”
“The Shire Mayor told us to go Bullsbrook – but even they did not want us there. So no matter move they do not want us.”

Mel Congerton, City of Swan Deputy Mayor gave a statement on Perth Live to respond to Peter Lyndon-James’ claims the City of Swan is trying to force out Shalom House.
“I am amazed at the comments made by Mr Lyndon-James. We recognise that the Shalom House is a good program but it needs to be done in a way that approvals are required for developments in any part of the City of Swan,” he told Oliver Peterson.
“If Mr Lyndon-James wants to continue to develop the properties that he’s bought, illegally, and not applying for the appropriate applications then the City will continue to take notice for Mr Lyndon-James to comply. But it seems he does not want to comply.”
