‘One in a million’: Hero teen says shark was ‘easily the size of my Holden Rodeo’
Teenager Connor Shirley, who is being hailed a hero after saving his mate from a shark attack in WA’s Great Southern, says the suspected great white was as big as his car.
Connor and Luke Pascoe, 17, were spearfishing off Albany’s Mistaken Island on Monday when a 5m great white shark bit Luke, prompting Connor to suppress the wound and carry his mate across rocks to safety, before rushing him to hospital.

“I drive a Holden Rodeo, which is fairly large, and it was easily the size of that,” he told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings.
“I was constantly looking back and we were both checking it was not there.”
Connor said Luke was faring okay on Wednesday as he prepared for surgery on his injuries.
“I’m going back in an hour to see how he’s going before his surgery to fix his patella tendon on his left knee,” he said.
“I could see all of his knee from the outside, it’s definitely something you don’t want to see twice.”
