The state government has revealed harsher social restrictions as WA braces for the peak of the Omicron outbreak.

The Premier says with around a thousand new COVID-19 infections a day – the peak of the omicron outbreak is only 2-3 weeks away.

In preparation for the sharp rise in case numbers, the state government has announced level two restrictions which will come into effect on Thursday, in line with the border reopening.

A part of the new restrictions, children in Years 3-6 were added to the mask wearing requirements in all public indoor settings. Former Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Nick Coatsworth has told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that the new mask measures for students needs to be scrapped.

The Western Australian Primary Principals’ Association (WAPPA), President, Niel Smith told Oly that he has concerns about how these new measures will impact learning in schools.
