The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is urging the public to be aware of a new, malicious scam targeting a typical shopping program used by consumers daily.

Scammers are now sending messages to people’s phones telling them their loyalty points are expiring soon before sending them links to malicious sites.

ACCC Deputy Chair Catriona Lowe told Russell Collett on 6PR Afternoons it is an easy trap for people to fall in to.

“If you get that text message, delete it or ignore it,” Ms Lowe said.
