New report reveals elite athletes mistrust about detailed data collection

The CSIRO and Australian Sports Commission have released a report on the mistrust among elite athletes about increasingly detailed data collection.
The international sport data analytics market is worth $2.6 billion, raising the question of who owns the data.
Dr Peter Brukner, Professor of Sports Medicine at La Trobe University in Melbourne and former Australian Cricket team doctor told Jo McManus that there is no answer to that question.
“There is a massive amount of data being collected in all types of sports and that’s just blown out in the last 10 years or so,” he told Jo.
“The issue arises of who owns that data – if you’re a professional football club and want to sell a player, who has access to that data? The potential purchaser? The player? It is an absolute minefield.”
