Newly built homes will have a minimum seven-star energy rating under changes agreed last week to the National Construction Code that experts say will cut home energy bills.

CEO of Green Building Council of Australia, Davina Rooney told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that the new seven-star energy rating will mean more practical and comfortable elements in our homes.

“We can expect more efficient windows that are more likely to be double-glazed and more installation,” she told Oly.

“The early modelling shows that for every dollar we put in, we get $1.30 back. I’m pretty excited about these types of return figures.”

“The figures that we’ve been looking at that are going into the modelling are under $2500 per house on average.”
