New ‘consent’ rating being considered for films and TV shows

Films and TV shows would warn viewers about non-consensual romantic and sexual interactions under proposed new classification guidelines.
Consent advocacy group Consent Labs is campaigning to introduce a new classification — (C) Lack of Consent — the first ever classification to call out lack of consent on screen.
Consent Labs CEO Angelique Wan told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings new research shows 57% of Australians are unable to recognise non-consensual acts in popular films and TV shows, with the proposed classification hopefully helping viewers understand the difference between consent and lack thereof in films ranging from Sleeping Beauty to The Devil Wears Prada and Wedding Crashers.
“With this campaign it’s not at all to cancel or censure our favourite films, it’s really just for education purposes,” Wan said.
