The man in line to be WA’s next top cop says police are working hard with the Department of Communities to combat the crime wave crippling the Kununurra community and local business owners.

His comments were in response to several ram-raid incidents on Monday night, including one at Gullivers Tavern, which was the target of two attacks in one night, and months of anti-social behaviour in the North West town.

“Police are there, police are charging people … I am working closely with the Department of Communities, Department of Justice and mining companies to work out what we can do to prevent this type of recidivist offending occurring,” Mr Blanch said.

“We can put them in Banksia Hill … but we have got to have other options.”

Mr Blanch said he would also throw his hat in the ring to be WA’s next police commissioner.

“I am who I am and always happy to be a deputy, but I’ll throw the application in,” he told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.
