The Bunbury mayor has been targeted by an online pest and council rival over his dress attire at an official public fun run event (see image at bottom of article).

Former journalist Michael Southwell (above left) posted a picture on his social media of Jaysen Miguel (above right), with the caption: “Believe it or not, this is the bloke citizens elected to represent WA’s second biggest city, Bunbury. He was representing the city at a public event.”

Miguel told Mornings host Simon Beaumont that “I am who I am and I’m sorry if I offend anyone but I want to let my actions do the talking”.

Southwell ran for mayor against Miguel in 2021, and is a former Capel Vale shire president, who earlier this year was found guilty of his 13th local government breach.

He told Beaumont that he believed the mayor should be “a leader and not a cheerleader”.

“For me, I think a good example is Basil Zempilas… he always looks great, dresses appropriately, and he presides over things rather than be a participant,” Southwell said.
