The announcement of a new Mabo Centre could be a game changer for the many impoverished and remote Indigenous communities throughout Australia.

Gail Mabo, daughter of community leader and land rights campaigner Eddie Mabo, explained to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that the aim of the centre is to be an ally for Indigenous communities, particularly in the Pilbara and the Kimberley, and to help them step away from poverty and flourish.

Simon questioned Gail about the controversial choice to have Rio Tinto as a founding partner.
“They’re willing to accept what they’ve done wrong and start doing right,” she said.
