Local mountain bikers are angry after one of the state’s most popular long-distance biking trails has been moved and reduced by about 9km.

Some locals in the area say the decision to realign the Munda Biddi trail, running from Mundaring to Collie, has been influenced by mining plans in the area.

“I believe that this realignment has happened because there is an Alcoa extension application for a mining area lease that’s currently sitting with the environmental protection agency in WA,” Duncan Veitch, mountain biker and outdoor education teacher, told Jamie Burnett on Weekends.

“It’s not yet approved but I believe they’ve preemptively realigned the trail to make space for this new mining lease.”
