Liberal Senator Linda Reynolds urging her party to consider female quotas
With the Liberal heartland lost in WA, prominent Liberals believe their party will be “in the electoral wilderness for some time” unless they elect more women to parliament.
Liberal Senator and former Defence Minister Linda Reynolds is now urging her party to consider temporary female quotas.
Gary Adshead asked Linda why she is now pushing for these quotas, as she hasn’t been a fan of them in the past.
“The issue of gender is something that I have been working on for many years in the Liberal party. Despite all the discussions we’ve had and the reviews on issues of gender, today federally, we are in a worst position since 1983. We still have 8/10 of our elected representatives as men, so it is time for change,” Linda said on 6PR Mornings.
“We need to put everything on the table and to work out how we not only hear what women have told us, but also act to make it far easier for great women to take office bearing positions and to stand as candidates.”
