Leading Perth paediatrician slams slated changes to NDIS

A leading Perth Paediatrician has slammed slated changes to The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Under the proposed changes “authority and control” could be taken away from the parents of a child with a disability if they don’t comply with NDIS protocols.
A guardian can instead be appointed, and there’s no right of appeal.
Paediatrician Dr David Roberts said the problem surrounds “restrictive practices”.
“But this idea has been taken beyond what normal people see as violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation in a child with a disability,” he said on 6PR Mornings.
“Sending a child to bed at his or her allocated bed time, when they don’t want to go, that is seclusion – and that is a restrictive practice.
“The NDIS want the power to regulate how parents raise their children, and if you don’t comply with the new NDIS regulations, the NDIS will withdraw funding for the services your disable child needs.”
