Some head scratching decisions have occurred overnight by two Western suburbs councils.

The Nedlands Council has rejected the proposal for a children’s hospice that would care for young children who are dying.

John Carey, Local Government Minister spoke with Oliver Peterson on Perth Live to discuss his disappointment in the decision.

“I’m deeply saddened, and in fact I’ve been shocked by some of the commentary. I mean this is accommodation for a family who are going through an extraordinary journey that most of us will never understand,” he told Oly.

John further told Oly that one of the most absurd comments made by a Councillor was “due to the sites proximity to an army base, if that base gets attacked, this site will also face damage.”

Down the road, Cottesloe Council also decided to impose the $400 fee for residents wanting to put play equipment on their front verge.

“Again, this is red tape gone mad. We actually know if you want a vibrant, safer and connected community, you want to have active streets and verges,” John said.
