International student influx straining struggling housing market: IPA

Simon Beaumont

The Institute of Public Affairs is urging to government to reconsider allowances on international students entering Australia, as the housing crisis continues to grow more dire.

IPA Director of Research Morgan Begg told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings we’re now facing the biggest surge in international student arrivals on record.

“This will have critical implications for the persistent housing affordability and availability issues facing Australians,” Mr Begg said.

“In the last financial year the amount of international students was equivalent of 70 per cent of new houses applied to the market.”
