The Sydney Sixers suffered a five-wicket loss to the Melbourne Stars at the SCG – and potentially their captain Moises Henriques for the rest of their Big Bash League campaign.

Henriques was forced to retire hurt mid-way through the Sixers innings after suffering a recurrence of a calf injury that sidelined him last nmonth.

It was in the 13th over of the Sixers innings where Henriques suffered the injury just as he looked set to do some damage.

The Sixers have confirmed Henriques will have scans on Monday to determine the full extent of the damage. But he appeared in a lot of pain as he was taken from the field having made 41 from 34 balls.

The Sixers could only manage 6-138 from their 20 overs thanks to some tight bowling by the Stars’ spinners, led by Michael Beer (1-15 from 4 overs) and Ben Hilfenhaus (2-23) grabbed a couple of late wickets.

The Stars, who went into the match having lost their first two games of the season, started their run chase a little shakily losing Marcus Stoinis for a duck third ball of the innings and the big-hitting Luke Wright for eight.

But an 83-run partnership for the third wicket between man-of-the match Glenn Maxwell and Peter Handscomb helped them regain the ascendancy in the middle part of their innings.

Handscomb top-scored with 52 and Maxwell made 50. Captain David Hussey then finished off the match with a quick-fire 24 not out from just 15 balls.

Veteran left-arm paceman Doug Bollinger (2-31) was the only multiple wicket taker for the Sixers.
