Independent, Greens Senators plan to withhold Census information

Article image for Independent, Greens Senators plan to withhold Census information

Nick Xenophon, WA’s Scott Ludlam, Sarah Hanson-Young and Jacqui Lambie are some of the Senators who will leave personal details, such as names and addresses, off the Census form tonight.

The controversial Census has been blighted by overwhelmed call centres, missing Census letters and forms and concerns about privacy.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics today moved to allay the fears of some households yet to receive their Census forms or letters, about the possibility of massive fines.

The Census website today declared: ‘We are experiencing a high volume of calls.

‘Do not worry if you have not received your Census materials.

‘You will not be fined if you complete your Census after Census night.

‘Try calling again after August 10 when we expect call volumes to reduce.’

But Senator Xenophon, who does risk fines of $180 a day until the form is completed, told Gary Adshead his refusal to share some information is because of privacy concerns.

Gary didn’t agree…. LISTEN HERE.
