‘I’m not buying that’: Fuel excise cut sparks price collusion fears

Service stations are scrambling for last-minute deliveries of low excise fuel as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission warned major wholesalers and retailers of anti-competitive behaviour.
The temporary fuel excise cut of 22¢ a litre ends at 11.59pm, leading to expectations of higher prices at petrol pumps within a week.
Australasian Convenience and Petroleum Marketers Association chief executive Mark McKenzie told 6PR Breakfast the expectation of a price hike overnight sparked motorists to fill up, with service stations then running out of fuel.
He denied major suppliers will collude now the tax cut is removed, which Breakfast co-host Jenna Clarke wasn’t buying.
