Holiday plans take a backseat as families feel financial heat this summer

Simon Beaumont

More than half of Australians have changed summer holiday plans after interest rises and other cost-of-living pressures.

A survey of 1500 people by the Tourism and Transport Forum found 58 per cent of respondents had changed their holiday plans – from cancelling, delaying trips or downgrading aspects of them – while 11 per cent were still undecided, due to the impact of current financial pressures on their budget.

TTF chief executive Margy Osmond told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings it was clear cost-of-living pressures were forcing Australians to adjust their travel and holiday plans to necessitate savings.

“More than anything else it’s giving people a bit of pause in terms of  their holiday bookings,” she said.

“People are being a little bit more reluctant than they normally would at this time of the year to holiday.”
