Heated crisis discussions ahead as Police Union meets amid pay disputes

The Union is meeting today with WA Police management for crisis talks as members have been directed to issue ‘cautions’ rather fines for low-level traffic offences and to block mobile speed cameras in a stark escalation of the ongoing pay dispute between cops and the government.

Mick Kelly, WA Police Union President told Simon Beaumont on 6PR Mornings that this strategy has been used before in previous campaigns.

“The speed operators are there and are visible to drivers coming past – it’s in everyone’s interest if we do ask our members to continue with our industrial actions then that’s a strategy,” he told Simon.

“But what I want to say is that I am hopeful that the WA Police executives have listened to us from last week and that we are going to get an offer that is considerably better than the first offer by Friday.”

Going into the meeting with a positive mindset, Mick Kelly said he is keeping his foot down on certain negotiations and hopes to get better conditions for WA cops.
