Heart Foundation urges Australians to get annual heart check-up after many fail to get checked
Around two-thirds of Australians who need annual heart check-ups have not done so in the past two years.
Natalie Raffoul, Healthcare Programs Manager at Heart Foundation joined Gareth Parker for Heart Week to urge Australians to book in a check-up with their GP.
“It could be the most important check-up that you have,” she said.
“It is a pretty simple check with your GP, no treadmills involved or invasive procedures.
“They will then assess your chances of developing a heart attack or stroke in the next five years, most importantly they will work with you right then and there to develop a plan to help you lower your risk.”
Raffoul said the death of Shane Warne had spiked an increase of Australians visiting the Heart Foundation website and booking appointments with their GP.
“It was a tragic wake-up call for many Australians,” she told Gareth Parker.
