UPDATE: DFES has responded to the union’s claims saying they have decommissioned five firetrucks due to the union’s industrial action.

The state’s minimum bushfire preparedness requirements will not be met this weekend when temperatures are expected to reach 38 degrees.

DFES has taken six firetrucks and 14 firefighters offline today and tomorrow due to a resistance to overtime pay.

President of the United Professional Firefighters Union Clem Chan told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live lives could be lost if a bush fire breaks out this weekend.

“We’ve got some grave concerns,” said Mr Chan.
