The State Government has announced the location of Perth’s new Women and Babies Hospital will be built within the Fiona Stanley Hospital in Murdoch.

The $1.8 billion facility was originally set to be built at Charlie Gardiner Hospital, a more central location

Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live building it at Charlie’s would cause too many disruptions.

“The business case identified a number of risks to delivery… and unacceptable disruptions to the staff and patients already working at Perth Children’s Hospital and Charlies,” said Ms Sanderson.

“The risks outweighed the benefits… it would be irresponsible.”

Australian Medical Association WA President Mark Duncan-Smith told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live it’s a shame it took the government so long to realise the risks.

“It’s just a pity that three years have been wasted,” said Dr Duncan-Smith.
