Government commits to ‘remote sentencing option’ for teenage boys uploading crimes on TikTok

Teenage boys uploading vision of their crimes on social media websites such as TikTok will have a “remote sentencing option” the WA Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan says.
It comes after a report in The Australian which showed teenage boys are increasingly uploading videos of crimes they are committing for social clout.
Under the plan they will they will have the option to be sent to a remote pastoral station with no mobile data.
“We’re really conscious that this problem has escalated,” Ms MacTiernan told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.
“So we’ve been working across government on a package, and part of it is a commitment in the budget for $15 million to develop a remote sentencing option.
“And this will be something that the kids are given an opportunity to select, rather than to take other pathways.
“We haven’t fully closed the deal, but the most prospective place for this is Myroodah station as we’ve indicated in the article.”
