2017 AFL premiership favourites Greater Western Sydney Giants have thrown former Fremantle Dockers midfielder Matt De Boer a second chance, selecting the tough nut with pick 58 in Fridays AFL draft.

De Boer, 26, said he received the news whilst on holiday in Vietnam.

‘I got a call from my manager asking when I would be back in the country because there was some strong interest from Greater Western Sydney,’ said De Boer.

‘A few days later I was on a plane to Sydney for a medical and met with Leon Cameron which went really well.’
