Port Adelaide have started their season with a 50-point victory over the Fremantle Dockers at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.

The Dockers waited 23-minutes before kicking their first goal, while Port Adelaide was already in control of the game, to finish 16.14 (110) to Freo’s 9.6 (60).

Defender Alex Pearce made his long awaited return after two broken legs kept him out of the game for over a year and finished with 12 disposals, three marks and two tackles. Aaron Sandilands kicked his first goal since Round 22, 2015.
Lachie Neale clocked up an impressive 38 disposals and skipper Nat Fyfe had 22 disposals and a goal.

Former Sun Brandon Matera spoke with 6PR after his Fremantle debut.
“It’s a bit hard when we don’t get first to the ball”

Hear how the game played out with highlights from the game:

Port Adelaide assistant coach Brendon Lade spoke with 6PR before the match up.
“Can’t replace Robbie Gray unforturnatly, but we’re hoping some players come in and [Sam] Powell-Pepper and [Tom] Rockcliffe didn’t play last week against the Crows when Robbie did so hopefully they can pick up some of the slack,” Lade told 6PR.

“We think we’ve been getting some good run and rebound from our defenders, we’ve got blokes done there that can play taller,” Fremantle Assistant Coach Michael Prior told 6PR.
