GAME DAY: Massive win for Freo

Article image for GAME DAY: Massive win for Freo

Fremantle have recorded a massive 83-point win over the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday, after the Lions kicked three goals to start the game, Fremantle surged forward and never looked back for the big 9.10 (64) to 23.9 (147) victory.

It was Fremantle’s second win in a row for the season and they equalled their biggest ever win over the Brisbane Lions with the 83-points.

The first moments were slow for Fremantle with the Lions able to slot three straight goals through, but the Dockers answered back with young Darcy Tucker starting the ball rolling for his side.
Fremantle kicked three goals to get in touch with the Lions and Chris Mayne had a chance to push his team in front with a shot at goal after the quarter time siren but his inaccurate kick levelled the scores at the first break.

Fremantle took charge in the second quarter only allowing the Lions to get one goal, while the Dockers kicked nine for a 45-point lead at half time.

It was much of the same for the second half with Fremantle dominating around the ground and extending the lead. Rohan Bewick broke a goal drought for the Lions with a major late in the third, but Fremantle’s confidence was up with Matt Taberner finishing with five goals, Chris Mayne, Lachie Weller and Hayden Ballantyne all finished with four goals each.

Although Matthew Pavlich was rested for the game, Fremantle still had plenty of strength in their side, including youngster Connor Blakely who finished with 29 disposals.
