GAME DAY: Cats claw back for win over Freo

Article image for GAME DAY: Cats claw back for win over Freo

Geelong has stormed over the top of Fremantle in the second half to take home a 17-point win, despite the Dockers leading the way at the start of the game.

Fremantle kicked four goals to one in the first quarter, but Geelong edged closer lead by Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood for their 11.12 (78) to 9.7 (61) victory.

Michael Barlow returned from a finger injury to kick the first goal of the game and he continued in fine form clocking up 17 disposals in the first half, but the comeback was shortlived with a shoulder injury early in the third quarter forcing him off the ground for the rest of the game.

Geelong’s Lachie Henderson also came off the ground in the third quarter with a hard knock to his head.

Dangerfield’s 31 disposals and four goals kept his Cats in the game, while Tom Hawkins was kept to only one goal late in the game due to the strong defence from Zac Dawson.

Hear how the game played out here…

‘There’s a lot for us to take out of tonight, we’ve still got a lot of young guys that are coming through at the moment and these wins are really important.’
Joel Selwood spoke with us after the game…

‘They have quality defenders, so we can’t just keep going out all guns blazing all the time; we need to build that composure.’
Michael Walters spoke with us after the game…

‘Where are we? I just think we’re in the race; I think it’s really tight.’
Listen to Chris Scott’s post game press conference here…
