Frustration burns near border as four freight trucks catch fire

Millsy & Karl

Issues continue to fester near the South Australian-Western Australian border as frustrated truck drivers try to get freight into the west.

South Australian Road Transport Association executive director Steve Shearer has criticised WA authorities after four trucks burst into flames at the WA-SA border as drivers awaited COVID-19 tests.

The truck fires come on the back of food supply issues affecting WA due to the South Australian train line being wrecked by floods, while bushfires simultaneously rage across three regions of WA.

Mr Shearer told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast some truck drivers are being deterred to head west because of our COVID rules.

“The WA government and its agencies are not really recognising the critical role that trucking’s playing and they could do a number of things to improve the situation,” he said.
