From animal to human: Increasing wildlife interaction could lead to future pandemics

According to The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSRIO), Australians should prepare themselves for more threats of pandemic in the near future.
Michelle Baker, co-author of the report from the CSIRO Infectious Disease Resilience Mission, told Liam Bartlett on 6PR MorningsĀ the potential for us to see a new virus emerge in the future is a likely scenario.
She describes these viruses as being āZoonoticā, meaning they are spread through close interaction with wildlife.
āAbout 75 per cent of all infectious diseases are zoonoticā she told Bartlett.
There is a silver lining however, as the report merely indicates an emergence of infectious diseases and should not be a cause for concern that they will all end in a pandemic.
