The one-match ban to Fremantle forward Michael Frederick shows the players are serious about implementing new standards at the club that sits 9-3 on the AFL ladder with impressive wins over premiership fancies Melbourne and Brisbane.

6PR Breakfast host Gareth Parker said if the club has imposed a drinking ban for six-day breaks, then it needs to apply them.

“I think Michael Fredericks will be stung to miss and he’ll come back pretty determined, and it sets a tone and a message to all of his teammates too,” Parker said.

6PR Football broadcaster Tania Armstrong also didn’t mind the ban to the 22-year-old, who has been in hot form this season but will miss Saturday’s home game against Hawthorn.

The Dockers on Tuesday said Frederick drank alcohol after Sunday’s win over Brisbane, with the decision made in consultation with the team’s leadership group.

“The club is proud of the culture it has built in recent years and that is mainly due to the strong commitment to the trademark that the players and staff adhere to every day,” football general manager Peter Bell said.

Parker and Armstrong also discussed the suspension to premiership key defender Steven May after an alcohol-fuelled scuffle with teammate Jake Melksham.
