A large 2.5m crocodile that attacked a swimmer in Lake Argyle Butler Cove on Monday has been destroyed but the attack has not deterred competitors in the annual swimming event this Saturday.

Lake Argyle Swim manager Glenn Taylor said roughly 75 per cent of the 357 entrants were saltwater swimmers, used to swimming with natural predators like sharks and a “pretty brave bunch”.

“It’s a very rare event and very unusual behaviour for a freshwater crocodile,” he told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.

“The timing in the week of the event has certainly created a lot of interest.”

Taylor said locals were pumped for the event, which features an amazing outdoor dinner for 700 people after the swim – the largest outdoor table service dinner in the Kimberley.
