Family reunions finally in sight for stranded West Australians

Family reunions are within sight after West Australians were finally allowed to travel east or welcome visiting relatives into WA, so long as they are triple vaccinated, return a negative RAT and self-isolate for 14 days.
The new directions published Wednesday come into effect on February 5 and include a broad expansion of travel exemptions on compassionate grounds, signalling a significant weakening of the state’s hard border.
“West Australians will be able to travel east to reconnect with family, or indeed welcome visiting relatives into WA, as long as they are vaccinated and prepared to spend 14 days in isolation,” Gareth Parker said on his 6PR Breakfast program.
Exemptions are also available to anyone entering WA from interstate to attend school, univeristy of TAFE, as well as their family members, while West Australians can also return from overseas, provided they adhere to the new criteria – which include returning a negative rapid antigen test 24 hours before departure – and only if they transit in another Australian state before flying on to Perth.
