WA Cricket head coach Adam Voges has shed some light on the incident which has delayed Cooper Connelly’s start to the domestic season.

Speaking on Wide World of Sports on Wednesday night, Voges explained the boating incident which has resulted in surgery for the young all-rounder which has delayed his imminent Sheffield Shield debut.

“He jumped off a boat and sliced his foot on a rod-holder. We’ve all made a few mistakes when we were younger but unfortunately he’s going to miss a little bit of cricket.”

“Not only will he learn from this, but we’ll see him back playing cricket sooner rather than later.”

Despite a plethora of players missing from the squad, WA made light work of Victoria in their opening Shield match winning by an innings and 53 runs, and Voges provided some positive selection news for its bowling stocks.

“Lance Morris now with a Cricket Australia contract has his loads monitored by them and unfortunately wasn’t available for that first Shield game but we’re fully expecting him to be available this week against Tasmania.”

Voges also spoke of the busy schedule that international star Cameron Green is dealing with which is likely to see him sit out the Big Bash during the summer.

“I’d love to see him play for us, but it’s unlikely that he will sign a Big Bash deal (with any franchise). I hope he’s playing test cricket.”
