Dad’s the word for David

Perth Scorchers import David Willey has spoken about his former international cricketer dad Peter’s nerves at watching his son play.

Willey made his debut for the Scorchers yesterday in their five wicket (five balls to spare) loss to the Adelaide Strikers.

His dad Peter played 26 Test matches for England and also spent time as an international umpire but struggles to watch his son play.

‘He’s a nervous wreck watching me. I had a message from mum last night saying that he felt sick so he went out to get his car serviced,’ Willey jnr said.

‘He was a strong character when it came to the cricket field, but he’s a bit soft when it comes to watching me, bless him.’
