COVID-19 update: Two new cases, restrictions to ease

6PR NEWS

WA Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson has confirmed that restrictions will ease from 6am on Tuesday, but mask wearing indoors will remain until at least 6pm on Friday.

It means restrictions on seated consumption, dancing, nightclubs and festivals will be lifted, however a proof of vaccination requirement will be needed for high risk events.

“These high risk venues and events include nightclubs, music festival and events of more than 500 patrons, where mask wearing will also be required outdoors,” the WA Health Minister said.

“Pubs, taverns, hotels and special facility licences with more than 500 capacity, or the specific licenced venues that trade after midnight.

“Evens with an occasional liquor licence and the crown gaming floor.

“The proof of vaccination requirement will be ongoing.”

It comes as the state recorded two new cases of community transmission of COVID-19, both believed to be linked to the backpacker cluster.

Both cases have been moved into hotel quarantine, one is an unvaccinated backpacker.

The restrictions were first introduced on December 23 after an unvaccinated French backpacker brought the virus in from Queensland.

Those restrictions were set to expire last week, but authorities had been concerned that 40 close contacts still hadn’t come forward for testing.
