Prime Minister confirms COVID-positive cases can vote by phone

Scott Morrison has confirmed to Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast the Australian Electoral Commission will extend phone voting to anyone who tested positive to COVID-19 from last Friday.
The AEC had said earlier a brief was approved recommending the federal government change the regulation to allow COVID-positive people from last Friday onward to use the phone voting system.
The Prime Minister on Friday morning confirmed exclusively to Breakfast that Special Minister of State Ben Morton had received the recommendations and accepted them.
“I’m advised we’ve received that advice and it will be expanding to people who tested positive after 6pm last Friday,” Morrison said.
“The Special Minister of State is liaising with the Labor Party to ensure there is bipartisan support for that.
“We’ve got a very good electoral commission in Australia, they’ve worked the problem, and they’ve come forward with a solution … you’ve heard it on your program first, it’s just come through in the last 15 minutes.”
Morrison use the air time to make one final appeal to WA voters, highlighting the government’s economic credibility.
