A man has died after an e-scooter and a bike collided in Perth’s southern suburbs early Wednesday morning.

The tragedy occurred along Yale Road near the intersection of Nicholson Road in Thornlie, about 2.27am, with a man in his 40s rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital fighting for his life.

Deputy Police Commissioner Col Blanch, in his regular Wednesday morning segment on 6PR Breakfast, told host Gareth Parker that the scooter rider had since died.

He said e-scooters were not a safer mode of travel than any other moving vehicle.

“They can be very, very dangerous on the roads. I think we’ve all noticed an explosion of them on the streets,” he told Parker.

“When you’re not walking and you’re on something that’s doing 25kmh or more, even if you’re wearing a helmet, you can really hurt yourself.”

Police remain at the scene investigating the cause of the crash.

Deputy Commissioner Blanch also touched on the spate of home burglaries in the western suburbs and crime wave in the Kimberley.
