HURRICANES WIN THRILLER

Hobart Hurricanes have made it four on the bounce, taking down Brisbane Heat by three runs in another BBL thriller.

Without fellow Bash Brother Chris Lynn, Brendon McCullum was dropped on 12 before being caught by Bailey for 32 (22). In Lynn’s absence, opener Sam Heazlett stepped up magnificently to record a knock of 45 (33) before being dismissed LBW but it proved to be in vain.

After his earlier heroics, captain George Bailey threw D’Arcy Short the ball with great affect – bowling a full spell that netted 1-20, including the big wicket of Heazlett. Fellow spinner Cam Boyce chipped in with 1-22 off his four-over spell that helped seal another victory for the Hurricanes.

Jofra Archer took a freakish catch that needs to be seen to be believed to dismiss Cutting off his own bowling while Alex Ross was controversially given out obstructing the field.

INNINGS BREAK – SHORT POSTS HIGHEST SCORE IN BBL HISTORY

Hobart Hurricanes have posted 4/179 after 20 explosive overs at the Gabba tonight.

D’Arcy Short continued his breakout year, finally reaching his maiden T20 ton after coming close on two separate occasions already this season.

His 122* (69) also ensured he posted the highest score in BBL history. Ben McDermott’s quickfire 19 (15) was also vital as he combined well by Short.

Mark Steketee leaked runs but picked up two wickets on the way to final figures of 2-51 and was the But it was Ben Cutting who was the pick of the bowlers, ending on 2-27 off his four overs.

PREVIEW

Brisbane Heat return home to face Hobart Hurricanes in their penultimate game at the Gabba this season in what promises to be an exciting contest between two red-hot teams.

Both the Heat are Hurricanes have won their last three matches respectively, making tonight’s match even more important. If the men in purple win, they’ll go level on points with the Heat and find themselves out of the top four by just net run rate.

With Chris Lynn out for the next few weeks with a calf complaint, it’ll be left to Bash Brother Brendon McCullum and wannabe Bash Brother Joe Burns to carry the load in the 27-year-old’s absence.

The key for the Heat is simple – stop the dangerous D’Arcy Short. The Hurricanes power hitter has blasted 284 runs from five innings – only Cameron White (285 from six innings) – has scored more runs so far this season. Get him out early and the Heat have to be favourites but if he’s allowed to build another strong innings, there’s a good chance the Hurricanes make it four consecutive wins.

Settle in because we’re in for an action-packed Wednesday night at the Gabba.

Join us from 7.30pm AEDT (6.30pm AEST) on 4BC in Brisbane, NTS Digital around Australia or through the Cricket Australia website and app as David Morrow and Mike Hussey bring you every ball from the sunshine state.
