Today, Australia’s leading Health groups have come together to push for a 20% levy on soft drink manufacturers.

The new levy could reduce Australians’ annual sugar intake by 2.6kg per person.

The 20% levy is a recommendation from the Wealth Health Organisation.

Food for Health Alliance Executive Manager Jane Martin told Oliver Peterson on 6PR’s Perth Live the Government needs to take action and make changes that support a healthier Australia.

“Overweight and obesity and poor diet are the leading burden of disease, it puts a huge cost on our hospitals, it means we don’t have a healthy workforce,” Martin said.
