ANF calls for greater restrictions to combat Omicron cluster

The WA branch of the Australian Nursing Federation has called for greater restrictions as the state attempts to get on top of the latest COVID-19 cluster

WA recorded five new Omicron COVID-19 cases on Sunday, all linked to the massage spa in Applecross cluster.

There are now 81 active Omicron cases in the state.

It also comes as Premier Mark McGowan reintroduced a mask-wearing mandate for residents in the Perth and Peel region.

ANF State Secretary Mark Olson stopped short of calling for a lockdown, but said more needs to be done to prevent the spread.

“On January 31 last year we went into a five-day lockdown … and that was all over one case,” ANF State Secretary Mark Olson said on 6PR Mornings.

“And it wasn’t Delta, and it wasn’t Omicron.

“Now we’ve got dozens of cases … there is a marked difference between the response of the government last year, and the response today.

“Now I’d hate to think that the only reason we went into a lockdown last year was that the government and the Premier were six weeks out from an election.

“I would hate to think that was the reason.”
