AMA raises serious concerns over state’s plan to treat COVID patients

The WA branch of the Australian Medical Association (AMA) has raised serious concerns over the state’s plan to treat COVID-19 patients once the borders are open.
The current plan would see patients diagnosed with COVID-19 treated in the hospital in which they present, rather than moved to a dedicated COVID-19 hospital.
AMA WA President, Dr Mark Duncan-Smith told Gary Adshead it could have dire consequences.
“What that means is that COVID positive cases will get spread around the hospitals, and there’s potential cross-infections,” he said on 6PR Mornings.
“What was trialled in Victoria with variable reports of success, was to actually screen patients … but you’d have hospitals that purely only deal with COVID at least only initially, to keep the other hospitals clean so they can carry on with business as usual.”
