Alternative travel on the cards as record fuel prices hit Perth
Wednesday’s record fuel price for Perth could drive some motorists to use alternative transport.
The average price of unleaded fuel has hit a record $1.95 per litre across the city, with BP service stations raising prices 38c a litre to $2.07 – the most expensive fuel ever recorded in Perth.
KPMG chief economist Dr Brendan Rynne told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast the price rises would get even uglier for motorists and force some to re-think how they travel.
“People simply aren’t able to spend like they used to, because driving around costs them so much more,” he said.
“They’re going to have to change their behaviour, change their consumptions and that’s going to hurt the economy.”
The recent price rises are being fuelled by huge increases in demand driven by transportation and manufacturing.
