Nursing organisations have said it could take five to 10 years for the sector to recruit enough staff to meet Anthony Albanese’s target for 24/7 nurses in residential aged care facilities, warning there is “absolutely no way” the industry will meet Labor’s July 1 deadline.

Australian College of Nursing CEO Kylie Ward told Gary Adshead on 6pr Mornings Australia was already facing a dire nursing shortage, and expecting an increase in availability in the already-strained system was completely unreasonable.

“Rather than put in arbitrary numbers, this needs to be something that we work towards,” Ms Ward said.
