A global movement behind conscious consumption of ‘stuff’

A global movement is encouraging people to be more conscious with their consumption of material goods, this October – It’s called Buy Nothing New Month.
Tamara DiMattina told Oly Peterson on Perth Live that it’s not about spending no money ever, rather being really thoughtful about the things we buy and the impact that’s having on our planet.
“Most of us know that our environment and our planet is in trouble, we are aware of it and and we feel bad about it. But the great thing is there are solutions,” she says.
“I might of had to buy a new phone charger in the last year, because hard to get new. But everything else in my life, my phone, my laptop, some second hand hiking boots – I bought them all second hand.”
She also told Oly that millennials spend an estimated $300 000 on stuff they don’t need by the time they retire.
If that’s not a strong case for getting behind the buy-less movement, she says the Science says we are happier when we spend our money on experiences instead of ‘stuff’
