Joint police campaign puts illegal guns in the firing line

Simon Beaumont

WA residents are being urged to help the fight to get illegal firearms off our streets through a joint WA Police and Crimestoppers campaign.

The first phase of the campaign from July last year to March was hugely successful, with a total of 1,250 firearms and gun parts were handed in to WA Police, as well as 35,183 rounds of ammunition.

WA Police Inspector Peter Morrissey said phase two of a six-month national illegal firearms campaign kicked off today, aimed at removing as many unregistered guns from the community.

“Ammunition is one thing in particular that people can have lying around in boxes, in their shed,” he said.
