Wheel clamping ‘extortion’

Scarborough businesses – and the local mayor – are fuming at an increase in targeted wheel clamping at a private carpark along Scarborough Beach Road.

Brett Eather told Mornings with Gareth Parker, he was stung $170 after stopping at the carpark for just 20 minutes – despite visiting a shop within the precinct.

Susan Chapman runs the wheel clamping business and told Mornings it’s a necessary evil.

But City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin then condemned the practice, saying it’s like extortion.
